The Gift of Time

Is your mother like mine?  Are you a mother yourself? Always on the go with a never-ending ‘to-do’ list and thoughts swirling around that would make a logistics officer want to quit their job?!

Where do they find the time for themselves while taking care of everybody else’s needs?  How do you recharge YOUR dwindling battery?

Your time is precious and yet it is one of the most important gifts you can give to another and to yourself. To do so genuinely is to be present in the moment, to enjoy yourself and to be good company to others. It’s no good to visit with someone and be completely distracted, absent or grumpy.Work/life balance is becoming more and more difficult to find as we continue to place added pressures on ourselves in a society wrought with expectations and attitudes that do not value balance.

So stop. Take time to consider what is most important to you. Stop and consider how your emotional being is feeling. Stop and feel your body. Does it ache? Are you fighting a disease? Can you feel it at all? What is it telling you? Perhaps you’re idea of normal isn’t normal at all, it’s just what you have become accustomed to.

If that’s the case it’s time to give to yourself. What do you want to do? Maybe you want to read a book, make time for a yoga class, meet a friend for coffee, get a pedicure or learn how to meditate. Maybe you want to learn to reconnect with your body so that as it learns to relax so you can go forward in your day with more ease, less pain, more awareness, less fogginess, more productivity, less stress.

Massage is one way to gain or start the process of gaining more ease in your body. Both the physical and mental aspects of your body as a whole can be nurtured with massage. It can ease tension and discomfort caused by tired and aching muscles. It can help improve immune system function and provide a better nights sleep.

Now that you have thought about how you might feel about this needing some TLC consider giving yourself or a loved one this gift. It’s a gift of time and of health. It’s a precious hour where in the treatment room, you become priority, where YOUR needs are met.  And as a gift, it recognizes your appreciation for the time that someone like your mother spends on everyone else but herself!
